Happy 3rd of July!  For all of you folks traveling on the open road a couple of tips:

1) If you have a programmable thermostat, place in hold mode to your upper programmed temperature.  Most thermostats let you specify the # of days to place on hold so that you can have a cool home upon your return.

If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, why not?  Click here to learn more about savings:  http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=find_a_product.showProductGroup&pgw_code=TH

2) Turn down your water heater to vacation mode.  This lowers your set point from 120F to 50F.   There is no need to maintain HOT water if you’re not there to use it.  A typical water heater will take 40 minutes to recover once you turn up the dial upon returning.

Just a couple of tips to save energy and save cents!

Have a great 4th and God Bless America!
