Energy Hog Challenge – Learning about Energy is Fun!

Energy Savings

Learning about energy is fun when you include Energy Hogs! The Energy Hog Challenge is a set of classroom activities that guide children through lessons about different sources of energy, how we use energy at home, and how to bust energy hogs to save energy.

Students will:

  • Learn good energy-saving habits
  • Bring their lessons home to help their families save money by reducing home energy bills
  • Protect natural resources for future generations.

Energyhog.org org has resources for Teachers, Students and Parents.  There are coloring books, scavenger hunts, posters, light switch plate covers, etc.  See all the resources here:  http://energyhog.org/adult/resources/

The more we educate or children about saving energy; the more it will become routine to them.  I recall the roll out of Recycling programs and look how robust those programs are with curb-side, single stream recycling.   An energy awareness campaign can have the same impact.  However, I don’t think we should take a “Save the Earth” approach but more of a “Good for the Earth” approach.  We should focus on  energy reduction to protect our natural resources which, in turn, will benefit the Earth!

Happy Back to School,

Happy Savings,
